BIRDS OF PALMYRA ATOLL

There are about 29 bird species on Palmyra from Red -footed Boobies, Black Noddy, Frigate birds, and more.   The second largest red-footed booby colony is found on Palmyra.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The class was allowed to participate with the Fish and Wildlife refuge manager in various aspects of native seabird research, including bird counts, and blood sampling.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Palmyra's variety of habitats, from Pisonia forests to intertidal sand flats provide important rest stops and feeding sites for seabirds and shorebirds.
